Class Information

American History 1 gr. 8-10th

This class is intended for 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students. We will cover the following historical topics over the course of the school year: Pre-colonial events, Colonial Settlement,The American Revolution, The New Nation, National Expansion and Reform, Civil War and Reconstruction. Students will be required to read historical fiction, historical articles, and create guided class projects. Students will need a spiral notebook for note-taking, a folder for handouts, and the necessary reading materials. A list of required books we will use will be provided prior to the beginning of class.

Instructor Bio:

My name is Joyce Young. I homeschooled my children from preschool through high school and loved every minute of it! For the last five years I have worked part-time in a private school doing intervention, special ed. resource room work, and substitute teaching where needed. I have a degree in General Studies with a minor in history. I am very happy to be back in the homeschool community of Palaestra and have great memories from when my kids were here.
